How it works
The calculator tries the piece along the longer wall and then the shorter one. It fits if it is no wider than the wall and leaves your chosen walkway in front. A walkway of about 30 inches (75 cm) is comfortable for a main route through a room.
For the doorway, it compares the smaller of the depth and height with the clear width of the opening, because large pieces are carried through on their side. It allows a small margin for hands and door frames.
What it cannot check
- Tight corners, stairs and lifts on the way in. Measure those too.
- Doors, drawers and windows that need to open past the piece.
- Radiators, sockets and vents on the wall you choose.
Before you buy, mark the footprint on the floor with masking tape and live with it for a day.
