How it works
Floor area is length multiplied by width. For an L-shaped room, split it into two rectangles, measure each and add a section for the second one; the calculator adds them together.
Wall area is the distance around the room multiplied by the ceiling height. It does not subtract doors and windows, so treat it as an upper figure when buying paint or wallpaper.
Measuring tips
- Measure at floor level, wall to wall, not skirting board to skirting board.
- Measure each wall twice. Older rooms are rarely square.
- Write the numbers on a sketch, with doors, windows and radiators marked.
